People experiencing early stroke symptoms can now access a clot busting thrombolysis treatment at GV Health, which can help avoid the catastrophic outcomes that can come from stroke.

Thrombolysis treatment involves injecting a ‘clot busting’ agent into a patient’s veins to dissolve the clot and restore blood supply to the affected area of the brain. This can significantly reduce the effects of a stroke, if administered four hours of first experiencing the symptoms of stroke.

Symptoms might include weakness in one side of your arms or legs, weakness in the face or drooling, slurring speech or vision problems.

It is vital that you call an ambulance and get to the Emergency Department FAST at the first signs of a stroke to meet the criteria to receive this ground-breaking treatment.
