The mental health and wellbeing of young people in the Goulburn Valley received a boost this year, following the opening of a new headspace centre in Shepparton.

The new headspace centre, located at 129 High Street, offers 12 to 25 year olds free, general and mental health support, assistance with alcohol and other drug problems, employment and social support, as well as information for young people and their families.

headspace Shepparton offers youth-friendly services, including:

  • mental health support and counselling
  • general health and sexual health services
  • education, employment and other social and vocational services
  • alcohol and other drug services

Since 2006, headspace has helped more than 95,000 young people with a range of issues affecting their wellbeing. The new centre will extend the important early intervention work of headspace in this growing region.

headspace manager Caroline French said headspace centres around Australia have already helped many young people get their lives back on track.

“The centre will provide someone else to talk for young people struggling with things like, depression, anxiety, bullying, and relationship problems,” said Ms French.

“headspace Shepparton is a place where all young people can access help in a friendly, welcoming environment.  headspace makes navigating support easier, so less young people fall through the gaps,” said Ms French.
