GV Health has maintained its accreditation status and is due for its onsite survey review against the new National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, the National Mental Health Standards, the Common Care Community Standards and the Disability Standards in April 2014. Read More

Infection Control

Healthcare associated infections are the most common complication affecting patients in hospitals. Each year, around 200,000 healthcare associated infections are contracted by patients in Australia. At least half of healthcare associated infections are preventable. GV Health uses a range of strategies across all levels of the healthcare system to minimize the risk of transmission of infections. The Infection Prevention and Control Committee now has a consumer representative, who brings a whole new perspective to the committee. Read More

The hospital focus on the National Standards has increased staff awareness about the need to record all medication incidents including those that are ‘near misses’. It is likely that this is a major reason for the increase in the total number of medication incidents increasing this year by 114, to total 283. Read More

Pressure Injuries

There are numerous risk factors for pressure injuries, immobility is one of these. To assist in the prevention and management of pressure injuries GV Health staff assess patients within eight hours of admission to determine whether they are at risk of developing pressure injuries using the Braden Risk Assessment. Good nutrition is important to help patients and residents to maintain muscle mass and strength which, in turn, are important for maintaining mobility and overall general health.

Dental Services

The 12-chair dental clinic at GV Health’s Shepparton campus provides care to all ages.

The modern clinic has the latest equipment and implements rigorous infection control techniques. The dental laboratory provides efficient denture services.

The range of programs provided includes Community Dental Program (including prosthetic services), Child and family dentistry, Early childhood oral health, School dental service, Youth dental program, Oral health promotion, Student teaching clinics.
