Healthcare associated infections are the most common complication affecting patients in hospitals.

Each year, around 200,000 healthcare associated infections are contracted by patients in Australia. At least half of healthcare associated infections are preventable.

GV Health uses a range of strategies across all levels of the healthcare system to minimize the risk of transmission of infections.

The Infection Prevention and Control Committee now has a consumer representative, who brings a whole new perspective to the committee.

The Infection Prevention and Control staff monitor patients presenting with, or acquiring an infection or colonisation during their care to ensure that they are identified promptly and receive the necessary management and treatment.
