Many Stories, One Australia was the national theme for Harmony Day in 2013.

GV Health celebrated Harmony Day by developing a book of personal stories from GV Health staff to showcase the diversity of staff from a variety of different countries and cultures.

While nine staff members submitted their stories for publication, there is room in the booklet to add more in the future.

Leigh Rhode, GV Health Executive Director Community and Integrated Care said everyone has a different cultural heritage and every single story should be celebrated.

“The staff of GV Health come from all over the world and have brought a wealth of experiences, insights and beliefs with them.

“Cultural diversity in the workplace gives us insights to embrace our individual differences and interact in ways that facilitate understanding and cooperation.

“As we build our cultural awareness, we also build bridges to trust, respect and understanding across cultures and within a multicultural workplace, fostering productive interactions and agreements,” said Ms Rhode.

In 2011, Australian Census data showed that 3% of the Greater Shepparton community is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage and 13% were born overseas.

The books are located throughout the GV Health Graham Street campus, Tatura campus and Rushworth campus for all visitors to read and enjoy.
