GV Health celebrated Refugee Week, 15 to 21 June 2013, helping to raise awareness about the issues affecting refugees locally and celebrate the positive contributions made by refugees to the local community.

A fun public community event was held in the Maude Street Mall, Shepparton, with other community organisations, including the Greater Shepparton City Council, UnitingCare Cutting Edge, Family Care, GOTAFE Shepparton, and the Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District.

As the theme of this year’s event was Restoring Hope, the GV Health Health Promotion Department decided to focus on a universal symbol of hope, the kite. GV Health hosted a kite-making table in the mall and invited people from all communities to participate in the joy of making and flying their own kites. The kites were a magnificent representation of the diverse journeys many have travelled to reach the Goulburn Valley, in search of a brighter future.
